Hemel Garden Communities 'Vision' Survey

Posted 09/11/2022

Hemel Garden Communities is asking local people to play a part in proposals for the town’s regeneration and growth, by sharing their views on what they feel will be most important to them in the future. Hemel Hempstead was awarded Garden Town status by the government in 2019, giving it the opportunity to be transformed through the Hemel Garden Communities programme, with plans to make it more vibrant and sustainable. It will create up to 11,000 new homes and 10,000 jobs by 2050, to the north and east of Hemel Hempstead, as well as transforming the existing town.

Community involvement is central to shaping the proposals and through the launch of the Hemel Garden Communities ‘Vision’ Survey, local residents, community organisations and business owners are being asked what they think about the Garden Town aims. Encouraging active travel is one of the priorities, with the creation of a safe, town-wide, cycling and walking network and anyone who takes part in the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win an electric bike (Terms and Conditions apply).

The Chair of the Hemel Garden Communities Board, Bob Lane OBE, commented, “The Garden Town aims provide a fantastic foundation for the future of Hemel Hempstead. They focus on creating a more innovative and dynamic destination and encourage investment in business and jobs, alongside new homes. Ensuring we have integrated communities is also key, with improved neighbourhood centres, leisure and green spaces, to connect established areas with the new growth. We want to share these ambitions with local people and find out what’s most important to them in making Hemel fit for the future.”

The Hemel Garden Communities programme is being delivered by a partnership of three local authorities, Dacorum Borough Council, St Albans City and District Council and Hertfordshire County Council, supported by Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Hertfordshire Innovation Quarter (Herts IQ).

The ‘Vision’ Survey and electric bike prize draw is open until 5pm on 11 December. Terms and Conditions apply.

The survey is now closed. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.
